The 2.4 Meter (2.4mR) is a one-fifth scale model of the 12-meter former America's Cup boats. The 2.4mR has many variants and is sometimes referred to as the Mini 12 class, which appeared after the 1980 America's Cup; this class was refined by Peter Norlin of Sweden into the 2.4mR of today, although the boat remains a construction class. Norlin's adaptations included accessibility features for physically disabled sailors, who have won two world championships in mixed contests with the able-bodied. The singlehanded boat can be steered with hands or feet, and all controls are within reach of the sailor from a fixed forward-facing seat. There is a whisker pole but no spinnaker. The Norlin MKIII is the most common design, though some older designs are still in use. The 2.4mR has been a paralympic class since 2000. The 2.4 Meter is an International Sailing Federation (ISAF) International Keelboat Class Association. For more information, read the 2.4 Meter Wikipedia article.
