Farr Yacht Design created the hull of the Beneteau First 36.7. There are over 400 of these boats worldwide, built at the French builder Beneteau's American facility, which opened in 1986 in Marion, SC. Boats in Beneteau's "First" series, seven of which are still in production, are all racer/cruisers that are well-appointed for cruising comfort but emphasize racing. The 36.7 is a follow-up to the very successful 40.7, also designed by Farr. (See in addition Farr 40, Mega Byte, and Mumm 30.) A choice between deep and shallower keels is available, and the solid fiberglass hull is wide-beamed with room for a wide wheel. The tall, fractional rig has two sets of swept spreaders. The boat is equipped with a 29-horsepower Volvo diesel engine. There are fleets in the U.S. and in Toronto.
