The Cape Cod Frosty is a very small boat, just six foot four in length overall. It was designed by Tom Leach in Massachusetts in 1984 and appeared in its first championship regatta the following year. Despite its diminutive size, the cat-rigged Frosty, which has a daggerboard, is for use by experienced adults. As Leach intended from the beginning, it can be easily built at home from two sheets of plywood, glue, and only minimal tools and skill. Most of the 1,000 Frostys in existence are owner-built. Kits for fiberglass boats are also available, from Star Marine. Star Marine and Sailpower Corp. continue to build new class-legal fiberglass boats. The Cape Cod Frosty is sailed in Quebec, Ontario, and the U.S. Northeast and Midwest regions.
