The J/22 keelboat is raced as a one-design class with active fleets in North America, Europe, and South Africa. There are nine Canadian fleets and, in the U.S., 20 fleets concentrated in the northeast and midwest regions. The J/22 appeared in 1983, and over 1,600 boats have been built since then. The strictness of the class ensures that older boats remain competitive with new ones. Capable of planing, the lead-keeled boat is raced with three or four people and features a non-overlapping class jib and large conventional spinnaker. The J/22 is the boat of choice for several international regattas, such as the Santa Maria Cup for women's match racing. The J/22 is an International Sailing Federation (ISAF) International Keelboat Class Association. For more information, read the J/22 Wikipedia article.
