With 5,200 hulls built, the J/24 is the world's most popular one-design keelboat. It was designed by Rod Johnstone in 1976 as a prototype vessel in his garage and initiated the J/Boat project. (See also J/30, J/105, JY15.) J/24s went into production in 1977 and already outnumbered MORC Internationals at races that year. Usually sailed by three to five people, the boat is raced as a strict one-design class and is established in more than 40 countries. It has extensive fleet representation across the U.S. and Canada. The J/24 is an International Sailing Federation (ISAF) International Keelboat Class Association. For more information, read the J/24 Wikipedia article.
