All boats in the Laser series are part of the same one-design class. They share the same hull design and are cat-rigged. The 13-foot-10-inch original Laser, the most popular racing dinghy in the world for both youth and adults, was designed by Bruce Kirby and put into production in the early 1970s. The Laser Radial is a variant with a sail smaller than the original Laser but larger than the Laser 4.7. The boat was nominated as an Olympic class for women beginning at the Beijing games in 2008. The Laser series is sailed worldwide and is popular throughout Canada and the U.S. The Laser Radial is an International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Olympic Class.
