The 20-foot Laser SB3 is an open keelboat, raced with three or four people. The SB3 achieves high speeds because of its large sail area, but the boat is still very stable, and the class forbids hiking. The bulb keel retracts for transport on the boat's custom trailer. The class is strict enough to allow only the builder's sails, which include a gennaker, the recently-developed hybrid of genoa and spinnaker. The main and jib are made of mylar. Designed by Tony Castro, the SB3 enjoys great popularity in England and parts of Europe. It is just starting to appear in U.S. and Canadian waters.
