There are six North American Megabyte fleets: Inter-West, US Eastern, Northern California, South-East, Mid-South, and Vancouver, BC. Called "the gentleman's Finn," the Megabyte can be sailed single- or doublehanded. This dinghy is slightly longer than a Laser but achieves its racing speed with a greater sail area. It was therefore designed for the stabilizing presence of a larger sailor-190-220 lbs (86-100kg)-or for the sailors' families to ride along. The MKII rig, inspired by the CII rig for the Byte, extends the Megabyte's weight range, making it possible for a lighter singlehanded sailor to use. Designed by Ian Bruce and Farr Yacht Design, the Megabyte is still in production. (Farr Yacht's other designs include the Beneteau First 36.7, Farr 40, and Mumm 30.)
