The Olson 30 is an ultralight keelboat designed in the late 1970s by George Olson (see also Olson 25 and Moore 24). Like other ultralights, the Olson 30 planes easily in a breeze. While usually raced with a crew of six, the Olson 30 has been used for singlehanded and doublehanded trans-Pacific races, and the boat is particularly popular on the West Coast. It is also represented in Hawaii and in the Southeast, Northeast and Great Lakes regions. About 250 boats were built, and because the class is experimental, many of these have been updated with features such as a double-spreader rig (rather than single-spreader) for stability.
