The Windmill is a two-person dinghy designed in 1953 by Clark Mills, who also designed the popular youth training boat the Optimist Pram. The Windmill's lightweight displacement hull, which planes in 10 knots of wind, was innovative for its time. Without a trapeze or spinnaker, the Windmill's mailsail and jib can be handled by new sailors, but the narrow, hard-chined hull makes it a good racer. Somewhat unusually, wood hulls are still being built-often by amateur builders, as Clark Mills intended-and these are still competitive with fiberglass-hulled Windmills. The boat is primarily sailed on the east coast of the U.S. as well as in Canada. For more information, read the Windmill Wikipedia article.
